Caffienate and Conquer & Conspiracy Bar: Delicious History
Thursday night in the glittering heart of Middletown, a Blogger's Collective, Caffienate and Conquer hosted an influencer event at Conspiracy Bar. Caffienate and Conquer is hosted by the lovely Kallie Branciforte .
Conspiracy is a new, craft cocktail bar. It’s like an exclusive club on top of the heart of Middletown with Pre-Prohibition cocktails and artisanal culinary delights. I loved how they mixed history with alcohol while teaching us new cocktails. It was also great meeting local CT bloggers among the gorgeous aesthetics Conspiracy serves up in a vintage, almost industrial twist. There was also Alycia from the incredibly popular CTEatsOut to give tips and tricks on food photography and Instagram. I loved the relaxed yet unique atmosphere and decor as I got to know some wonderful lady bloggers. I also got a great goodie bag full of local goodies! I thought the night was a perfect mix of mingling, cocktails and history.
Any time I hear or see the word Prohibition I see a glamorized short film of flappers and gangsters and moonshine and gin soaked jazz but I know there's so much more to it than that. It got me researching some fun Pre-Prohibition cocktails to try out!;
2oz Gin (London Dry)
.5oz Lemon Juice
.25oz Creme de Violette
Add the gin, maraschino liqueur, lemon juice and Creme de Violette to a chilled shaker glass. Add ice then shake vigorously until the outside of the shaker begins to frost. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with a maraschino cherry.
2 ounces Old Tom gin, preferably Ransom
1 ounce sweet vermouth
1/4 ounce Luxardo maraschino liqueur
3 dashes orange bitters, preferably Regan’s
3 dashes Angostura aromatic bitters
Add the Old Tom gin, sweet vermouth, maraschino and both kinds of bitters to an ice-filled mixing glass (or mixing tin) and stir with a barspoon until chilled. Strain into a chilled coupe or martini glass. Garnish with lemon peel. Serve immediately.
The Hesitation Cocktail
2 oz Rye Whiskey (Rittenhouse 100)
1 oz Swedish Punch (Kronan)
¼–½ oz fresh lemon juice
Shake all ingredients until cold; strain into a chilled cocktail stem. Optionally, garnish with lemon twist.
